Blog Tour Stop: The Corollaria by Courtney Lyn Batten

So today, I am the stop for the Corollaria Blog Tour!! I loved this book and so will you!!!

The CorollariaEmily has always felt like there was more to her parents' mysterious death, more to her being sent to live with the Lyall’s when she was fifteen. And definitely more to her inexplicable infatuation with Luke, the Lyall’s youngest son.

Luke can’t help but be drawn to Emily. She has these perfect blue eyes, unlike any he’s ever seen. And he feels a fierce need to protect her. Suddenly, one night, changes everything. He feels conflicted about his feelings and his destiny, as he and Emily are suddenly plunged into a strange new world.

Fast paced and action packed, a romance between Emily and Luke begins to take shape just as they are thrust into an ancient war, caught in the crossfire of bloodlust, revenge and love.

Below I have an interview with the author, Courtney Lyn Batten!!

Q: What was your favorite part of writing this book?

I really loved bringing Emily full circle.  I wanted a female character that was just as much the hero. That in the end it wasn’t anyone else who saved her.  She had to do that.

Q: Is this book part of a series?

No. At least not right now.  I’ve toyed with the idea of writing more because I think there is definitely more to not only Luke and Emily’s story but the other characters as well. And I really love the world I created. So…we’ll see ;)
Q:  What inspired you to write this book?

It was a few things.  At the time, my daughter was obsessed with the movie Tangled.  I really liked the idea of the magic flower and of taking the whole Rapunzel fairytale and giving it modern twist.  Also, I had written this one scene (Chapter 14) about a girl and guy caught up in a war.  I started writing, using my favorite paranormal elements and pulling inspiration from Irish fairytales.

Q: How did you model the characters’ personalities?

That’s a good question.  I think there are definitely bits of myself in Emily.  She starts out very unsure of herself and scared.  I think her relationship with Luke and through finding out the truth about her place and her family she really comes into her own.  She fulfills her destiny, so to speak.
Luke. Oh Luke.  I don’t know exactly where he came from.  Maybe a little bit from my hubby, who’s very laid back and calm like Luke.
As far as the rest of the characters, I think I just pulled bits and pieces from people I’ve known.

Q: Did you listen to music while writing? If so, what music?

Sometimes, yes.  Five Way Friday.  I love that band.  I think Luke’s band would have played music like that. A lot of indie rock, I guess.

Q: What was your writing process like?

Messy. It always is.  The first thing I wrote for this was chapter 14.  And then I went back to the beginning and wrote probably eight or nine chapters. Then I wrote this whole other part of the story and had to come back and figure out how I was going to fit that in. I ended up moving the ending and writing the last three or four chapters.  I wrote the prologue somewhere in the middle after my mama told me she wanted to know more about Samuel.
I added two or three scenes in different places (Chapter 2, and then Emily’s dream sequence) after the whole manuscript was put together.
And then I read it. And reread it. Again and again.  And every time I would change little things. A word. A sentence.  Add a sentence, delete a scene, etc.
After almost two years, it finally felt complete.

I'm kind of sad that it's not a series... Oh well, there's always hope!!
